Loneliness is a frequent theme in the book. Do you think Artificial Friends offer relief from loneliness or increase it?

I think AF could be an answer for loneliness especially for older people who may not be able to get out so much. With the way technology is moving on I think they will be able to hold ‘real’ conversations, play games, remind people to eat/drink/take medication etc.

Not sure, would depend on the functionality of the robot.

I think AF can offer relief from loneliness, but it would be down to the individual user whether this felt meaningful. But the same could be said for human interaction; if it fulfills our needs then it is a relief. But if it doesn’t it can emphasise the loneliness.
